Street food and healthy don’t usually go hand in hand.

However, in my continued discovery to up the ante with a healthier array of options from which to choose from, Bolani came to mind. This delicious street food, when baked versus fried and stuffed with veggie options goes from “once in a while” to “must have”.

Pair it with my tangy yogurt chutney sauce and the dish will speak for itself.

In this blog, I have sung the praises of pomegranate in many of my posts: Quince Pomegranate & Apple Juice, Pom Pear Pudding, and Lamb with Pomegranate and Saffron. It wasn’t’ until recently when a friend saw me deseed a pomegranate and marveled at the speed and ingenuity. So, I created this quick video with my genius director and video maker, Brandon Chaves, to show you how to deseed a pomegranate in 30 seconds.

Afghan rice pudding, sheer birinj.

VIDEO DEMONSTRATION | SHEER BIRINJ | (VEGAN) AFGHAN RICE PUDDING WITH OAT MILK, ROSEWATER AND CARDAMOM

In my effort to make Afghan food accessible to people with modified eating habits, I created a vegan Afghan rice pudding that has all the flavors of the traditional rice pudding without the dairy.

Creating this video demo was a collaboration with my daughter Sofia and her two friends, Laura and Isabella. They picked the recipe, they helped me test it to perfection and they did all the clean up after the filming session.

We took my mom's traditional sheer birinj recipes and made it even more delicious by using oat milk instead of cow's milk and coconut oil instead of butter.
